Dear UpLift Camper (And Parents)

UpLift is just days away and I can’t wait to get there! We have a great group of people going this year. Chaps this year are myself, Rusty, Kimberly and Pat Hasler. Cell phone policy, dress code, and overall info about the camp and what to bring, etc. toward the bottom of this page.

Please take note of these items. I know some of this is repetitive.  Got questions? Contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

  • PLEASE be at the building no later than 6:45 a.m. on Friday, June 11. We are leaving a bit after 7:00.
    • You need to plan for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Friday, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Then we will be in the UpLift Camp meal program. On the way home, plan for lunch and dinner on the 17th. We may stop for one set down meal that could amount to  about $10.00. The rest will be fast food. We will get home late on the 17th.
    • Parents, my cell number is 765-461-7940. Depending on how busy we are, you may have to leave a voice mail but I’ll get back with you as soon as I can.
    • The van rules are for safety.  Seatbelts are not optional. We will have a luggage trailer. Very small carry on stuff on the vans, very little space.
  • On Saturday (before registration in the afternoon) we will be going to either Heber Springs or B Rock to have some time together before camp. WE WILL PROBABLY get to go swimming – remember that on youth trips that all (males & females) wear T Shirts over swimming apparel.
  • Talk to your parents about what is appropriate clothing for you to wear. Usually common sense will be the best guide. However, there are some short length guidelines and a few other restrictions on some other clothing.

  • UpLift has rules for modesty. If you have questions about them, please let us know BEFORE our day of departure. I assume that by going you are willing to honor these guidelines, even if you disagree with them.

Call me with questions!  It’s going to be an AWESOME TRIP! -- Rusty

PS – Reminder – There is a cell phone policy (it’s online), don’t take PC’s and other expensive equipment… it’s not secure

The overall cost is $200, including the deposit. If I have told you have a scholarship, disregard this.

Everyone must do the forms. Rusty will email or call about fees and forms. We have PART of them. If you get a call or an email and need to get a form, look at the bottom of this page for FORM DOWNLOADs

DRESS CODE FOR TRIP:

Youth ministers and sponsors are responsible to see that their youth group (including sponsors and other adults in your group) complies with the dress code for Uplift. We suggest that you have a meeting with all thoseparticipating BEFORE they pack for Uplift and make sure they completely understand our dress code. The dress code will be strictly enforced by Uplift staff. If there are any problems while at Uplift, it will be your responsibility to see that all in your group meet dress code. (You may need to take your campers to Wal-Mart, Goodwill, etc. to find suitable clothing.)

UPLIFT DRESS CODE

Modesty is important and, because of this, we have a few rules concerning our dress code:

A. Don’t bring clothing without sleeves (guys and girls). You will not be allowed to wear them under any circumstances, including recreation time. Inappropriate clothing for Uplift includes any sleeveless apparel, (for example, sundresses, tank tops, sleeveless blouses, athletic shirts, and cut-off tshirts) and clothing that exposes any part of the midsection when standing, sitting, or bending over. All tops should be long enough to be tucked in.

B. Shorts may be worn, but they must be modest length. At Uplift, we define “modest” as those shorts which are below the fingertips when standing straight, arms to the side. This length applies to athletic shorts as well.

C. Skin tight clothing (tops, spandex, tight jeans, etc.) halter tops, or otherwise revealing clothing are inappropriate for Uplift and are to be left at home. Young ladies are asked not to bring any shirts/tops that reveal cleavage.

Uplift Cell Phone Policy

We believe that in an age when we spend so much time “connected” by our computers and cell phones, we could all benefit from some time without those distractions. This principle is found in the Bible and demonstrated by Jesus, as he would often go off to a quiet place to pray (Luke 5:16, Mark 1:35, Luke 6:12). We also read in Psalm 46:10 that we need to “be still and know that I am God.”

However, we also recognize and have witnessed that cell phones have their place in culture and can even be used to benefit the students and our purpose for Uplift.

Therefore, it is our policy to discourage students from bringing their cell phones to Uplift. We would also encourage parents and  sponsors to support Uplift with that decision based on the good that will come to the students by spending some time away from their “normal” life. If you are concerned about emergencies, you can always get a hold of your campers by calling Uplift Central or your youth minister.

However, if you believe it is necessary for your students to have their phones, we will operate under the following guidelines.

1. No cell phones will be allowed during any group session or activity, including, zoo crew, Group Uplift, Encounter Classes, God-Time, or Evening worship.

2. All phones seen at these times will be collected by the Uplift staff, brought to Uplift Central and returned to the appropriate youth minister or sponsor.

3. The only exceptions to these rules are if the student needs to make a necessary call and is accompanied by a sponsor for their church, or a counselor if they are an individual camper.

4. There may be other times when cell phone use will be permitted, such as a group game during Zoo Crew, and the campers will be told when that happens.

OVER ALL INFO FROM HARDING:

Uplift is a summer camp for students entering the 7th grade through graduating seniors on the campus of Harding University. While most campers come with their youth groups, you can also come as an individual. All those who come as individuals are placed in a group together. The students will go to classes and hear speakers each day of camp. There is also plenty of time for recreation and entertainment.

Read through the following information, and feel free to call or email us with any other questions.

::COST PER CAMPER

The cost is $190 (first come-first serve), which includes a $90-per-student deposit that is refundable until May 1, 2010. Registration is not complete until the deposit and medical release form are received. NOTE: WE PAY 200.00 -- THE ADDTIONAL $10 IS A FEE FOR OUR EARLY ARRIVAL.

::DEFINITIONS

Individual Campers – Constitutes anyone who is attending between those entering the 7th grade through those entering their freshman year of college without a group leader/sponsor.
Group – Two or more students constitute a “group” who are attending with an adult sponsor/leader.

In-Dorm Sponsors – The cost for an in-dorm sponsor is $100. They are expected to help control activities in the dorms and to abide by the same curfew and regulations as the students. If you like to stay out past curfew with other sponsors and prefer not to be around students 24/7, you DO NOT need to stay in the dorm.

Sponsor Housing – The cost for sponsor housing is the same as a camper–$190. You will have a room that you share with a roommate (we do keep all married couples together), and you will in most cases have suite mates. We ask sponsors in sponsor housing to help track their students from their congregation during the day and to also help run our recreation time in the afternoon. If you love young people but prefer not to be with them 24/7, then this is the place and position for you.

::RULES

1. Uplift is a Christian camp and we ask that you be respectful of other campers, counselors, Harding students, employees, and property.

2. Uplift I.D. cards need to be worn at all times. Your I.D. card is your pass to events and meals.

3. Computers, laptops, televisions, radios, video games, and jewelry are not permitted at Uplift. These items can be easily lost or stolen.

4. Possession of tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, or weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate expulsion from the camp at parents’ expense.

5. Remain on campus. Being caught off campus without permission will result in immediate expulsion from the camp at parents’ expense.
