2011, Jan and Feb Newsletter

From Vito & Antonietta Ligorio

Dear brethren
I want to start this first Newsletter of 2011, with the hope to find you all in good health, physical and spiritual. And with the hope that the Lord grant us many good opportunities in His vineyard, and a lot of prosperity in the life. Thanks and Glory to God who gave us a New Year to be able to serve Him, trying to bring other souls to His Church, snatching them from the world of darkness. Before to talk about our plans for this new year, I want to go  back, to talk about the latest news of the year that we just left.
On Sunday, December 5, 2010, we had the pleasure and honor to have with us, the family of Jim and Carol Rouse from the Congregation of Golden,  Colorado. For the Worship we met  in the Congregation of Taranto, where Franco Verardi preached and I translated into English. Soon after the Worship service, we moved to go into the Congregation of Mesagne, where we had arranged an agape to eat together and enjoy the specialties that our sisters (wives) had prepared. It was a beautiful day, especially since we have had with us, Jim and Carol Rouse.
On Monday 6, Jim and Carol  with Antoinette and myself,  we had a lunch together, at the home of Frank Veranda.  And soon after the lunch, we went in Grottaglie  to visit the ceramics factories . A ceramics exported to many countries around the world. Although this was a beautiful day, because we had the pleasure of being together with Jim and Carol visiting the ceramics and share the love of God, walking together. For January 6 of the New Year, the Congregation of Padova had invited me to bring  studies for a lectureship, on the topic "the perseverance". So, since my wife's sister lives in Trieste, which is not far from Padova, on December 29 we went to Trieste to stay for New Year with Antonietta's sister and her family. It was a nice experience to visit Trieste that is very beautiful. On Tuesday, January 4th, we went from Trieste to Padova, where we had a wonderful program of lectureship. In addition to the Italian brethren, there were also, about 50 maybe 60 Ghanaian brethren,  that came also from some neighboring Congregations.
In North Italy there are many Ghanaians who came to Italy, to find work, so even in our Congregations, there are many Ghanaians. For the program of lectureship on the topic of  "perseverance" and for the Worship service on Sunday, I spoke in Italian, but a brother of Ghana has translated for the brethren who do not know  Italian very well. It was truly interesting. From the 4rd of January until 10th,  when we returned home, my wife and I were guests of the family Jeremy and Rebecca Korodaj, we want to thank a lot, both for their generous hospitality and for doing for us by CICERONE, taking us around to visit Padua and surroundings and Verona also.   Thank you, Jeremy and Rebecca!  And Thank you also to Jeff and Tia Brauer and to the Congregation of Padova for inviting us for this lectureship. We want to thank also Arnaldo and Cosimina for letting us to visit Trieste and its surroundings. And for bringing us in the former Yugoslavia.
Om Wednesday,  19 of January, Franco Verardi, Massimo Resta with a few brothers  and I, we had the meeting to plan the work that we want to perform for the New Year 2011. Beyond the usual work of evangelism we do, from door to door, we have scheduled two lectureship. The first one  will be in June, on the topic "Seminar on the four Gospels. " The second one will be in October, but the theme that will be treated has not been decided yet.As I said in the Newsletter of December, Eric and Jessica Smith, from the Avanti/Italia program are planning to come to work with us in Taranto. We have already found an apartment for them, right near the places of worship. They will arrive to Taranto at the end of February. The brethren from Taranto are very happy to have someone who lives on site, even if we go regularly, but we live far away.
Talking about the year we just left, once again we want to say thank you to the Brethren and Congregations that are continuing to share their generosity in supporting us in the work of the Lord, even in this time of financial crisis. And with the words of David, I mean with you:"Who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this?Everything comes from you , and we have given you only what comes from your hand.1 Chronicles 29:14
With love in Jesus.Vito and Antonietta Ligorio

Vito and Antonietta Ligorio are missionaries in Southern Italy. Below is a recent newsletter which will help you understand the work they do for God in Italy.

Dear brothers and sisters in the Lord, with this Newsletter, we want to share with you what we're doing in the Lord's vineyard. To begin, I will quote the words of Paul to Timothy when he said: "In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of His Kingdom and His appearing, i give you this Change: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and  encourage  with great patience and careful instruction".  2 Timothy 4:1-2
This is what we have proposed to do with the special program started October 2009 and carried out, not only by our weekly Bible class, but also with special program like the one we had with Paolo Mirabelli and John Luallin  on April 24 and 25; and with Earl Lavender on the days of 1, 3 and 4 of June in the congregations of LATIANO, MESAGNE and TARANTO. The theme has been dealt by Earl was "The History of Life"to invite all the brethren to reflect, explaining believers or not believers,  "every human life is the narration of a story",  -  "is his story".
All the people believe in something, even those who say that they do not believe. For us that believe in God and are Christians is important to know that, what we do is the proof of what we believe and we really are.  We demonstrate "THE  GOD" that we believe with what we do and say.  So, people must see the GOD we believe looking at how we live!
Earl said that it is not important to study the Bible to memorize Scriptures, but to experience what God asks to us, he said that instead of talking about preaching the Word, he prefers to talk about training, because the members of Churches should not listen the story of Christ, the Christian life, but must train to live the life of Christ.Jesus said: "A student is not above His teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like His teacher" Luke 6:40,  adding that this verse must be our thinking to start our day, every day, every morning.  Then all the brethren was asked to examine their lives, to see every morning, what is the plan for the own spiritual training.
So, as I said all our midweek studies, as well as Sunday preaching are oriented in this direction,  "to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ". Ephesians 4:12-13.
In addition to the daily work, we are also thinking to have another special program in December, because God willing, Jim Rouse from Golden Colorado is coming to visit us, and for the occasion, we will be very glad to hear its call on the spiritual maturity that we are pursuing as a training program for the spiritual maturity. The brethren are very excited about what we are doing and I pray that this enthusiasm can take all the members, without exception, and can rag out so that the people of the country and the countries around us can see in our enthusiasm, the Word of GOD, as people have seen from the brethren of the Thessalonians, where Paul says:  "You became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. The Lord's message rang out from not only in Macedonia and Achaia, your faith in GOD has become known everywhere" 1 Thessalonians 1:7-8/a.
Now we are planning also the summer program for Evangelism. So a few dais ago we presented our request to the Mayor of Taranto for the occupation of public land, in the most frequented places and squares, where people, usually go  out for the evening stroll along the sea-front and gardens and squares. In these places we will put a table with the display of Bibles, New Testaments, books, brochures and leaflets with various titles that  we will offer free, on the days 3, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 28 and 31 July , and 4, 7, 11, 14, 18, 21, 23, 25 and 28 August, from 19.00 to 22.00 by distributing leaflets and religious materials of various kinds, but the most purpose of us, is especially to talk with people  and search to set up appointments to study the Bible together.

To explain better how to carry this work, I will enclose a photo of last year, with me  and Franco Ricciardi near the table of books and brochures.  I'm enclosing also a photo of Earl Lavender training the brethren to be good seventies of Christ.

Recently we had the joy to have for a week Deborah with Stefan,s boyfriend, and the last week of July with the first week of August will come Tiziana and Marco,s husband. We are very excited waiting for their coming.

Before to close, we want to thank all the brethren that are supporting us financially! You can understand how in this time of crises, each little help we receive, regularly and from time to time, is like "the bread that comes down from heaven" for the people of Israel. We want to thank also all the brethren that support us by prayers, because "the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective". We also pray for many of you and for many reason, introducing your name personally to the throne of GOD. We pray for your health, for your needs, for your congregation and for everything we know about you.

We love you, in Him

Vito and Antonietta
